Centering

BACK
The first step of learning how to throw on the pottery wheel is centering. Students will learn how to properly wedge and center their clay on the wheel. Using about 2 lbs. of clay and a plastic bat, students must demonstrate their ability to center clay. This is an essential skill that must be mastered before moving on to any other tasks on the wheel. Below is a video that demonstrates centering, as well as the rubric that is used to evaluate this skill.
