Artist Statements

For each full-length drawing students are required to write an ARTIST STATEMENT to accompany their drawing. Artist statements help students learn to communicate about their work and improve writing skills. Below are several handouts discussing what sort of things are included in an artist statement. There is also a rubric showing what artist statements will be grade on. I am not just looking for a statement on what a student did in a project, but also WHY they chose to do that, HOW they used the skills they have learned, and what they could do to improve in the future. Grammar and spelling are ALWAYS important in formal writing, but are not the main source of the grade.
